Luis joined the Quantum Device Physics group in 2018 as a postdoctoral staff scientist. He received his bachelor’s degree in physics from UC Berkeley and his Ph.D. in experimental physics from UC Merced in 2014. His Ph.D work focused in optomechanics and 3D superconducting radio frequency cavities. After his Ph.D., he continued his research at UC Merced working in the development of parametric devices utilizing high-Q superconducting radio-frequency cavities. Currently his research is focused in the field of quantum information science where, he has applied machine learning algorithms for improving qubit readout, studying decoherence in transmon qubits, and also works on the development of quantum devices for cavity quantum electrodynamics and sensing applications.
